Dr. Jeffrey Ross, a leader in the field of molecular diagnostics, recently spoke to BHS students about his work as the Medical Director of Foundation Medicine, Inc., a clinical next-generation sequencing and personalized oncology diagnostics company. Dr. Ross’s visit as the 2014 Scientist-in-Residence was supported by BEF’s Dr. Judah Folkman (Class of 1950) Science Endowment Fund, which aims to provide classroom experiences that will inspire high school students about the exciting opportunities for learning that are available in the sciences.
“Some of you may become cancer researchers,” said Dr. Ross, whose presentation focused on the history of cancer research and developments in treatment. “I’d like you to remember me as having played a tiny role in helping you make that decision.”
Dr. Ross chairs the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Albany Medical College and has written some 600 peer-reviewed scientific articles and abstracts, four textbooks and numerous book chapters. His two grandchildren, Sam and Hannah Dolen, attend Bexley schools.
