Alumni tennis tournament serves up community fun 

The second-ever Bexley High School Alumni Tennis Tournament will be held on Labor Day, Monday, September 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Bexley High School tennis courts on Stanwood Avenue. The tournament will be a mixed doubles format, single elimination with a consolation bracket. 

The block of Stanwood by the tennis courts will be closed to allow for the free, family-friendly event that will feature local food trucks Broke Johnny Food Truck and Four and Twenty Black Bird Early Bird Food Truck and a raffle of items donated by BHS alumni. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Families are encouraged to attend and enjoy the various games and activities, including a bounce house for children, face painting by Picadilly, corn hole, bucketball and ping pong. 

This year’s tournament honors the members of the 1976-1979 Girls’ Tennis Teams who set school records that still stand, won 134 matches in a row and produced several state champions. Center Court will honor the memory oftwo-time state doubles champion and BHS Class of ”˜92 graduate Andrew Stern. 

Proceeds from the tournament and tailgate benefit the Lions’ Pride Alumni Fund which supports a variety of events and activities for Bexley High School seniors and alumni.  

A rain date of Sunday, September 9, 2018 has been set for the tournament.
