Bexley Community Book Club (BCBC) has welcomed a diverse array of notable authors to Bexley since its founding in 2008. Beginning in 2017, this program will transition from under the auspices of the Bexley Education Foundation (BEF) and enjoy a new chapter as a signature program of the Bexley Public Library. The program will be renamed The Bexley Community Author Series and will maintain the same tradition of excellence established by the BCBC.

The Bexley Community Book Club has successfully hosted such notable authors as Jacqueline Woodson (2016), James McBride (2015), Russell Banks (2014), Jennifer Egan (2013), Jonathan Safran Foer (2012), Billy Collins (2011), Ann Patchett (2010),Tobias Wolff (2009), and Pete Hamill (2008). The inaugural author visit for the Bexley Community Author Series will feature award-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author Colson Whitehead on Friday, April 28, 2017, at 7:00pm in the Bexley High School Schottenstein Theater.

Bestselling children’s and adult author Jacqueline Woodson will visit Bexley High School on December 1, 2016 as Bexley Community Book Club’s 2016 Selected Author. The winner of the 2014 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, Woodson was recently named the Poetry Foundation’s Young People’s Poet Laureate for 2015 and is a four-time Newbery Honor medalist. During her December 1, 2016 visit, Woodson will spend time with Bexley students during the day and give a community presentation in the evening at Bexley High School.

BCBC’s Community Partner, the Bexley Public Library, will produce and host several literary events prior to Ms. Woodson’s visit, offering the community opportunities to explore her work. Ms. Woodson’s presentation at Bexley High School at 7:00 p.m. (NOTE NEW TIME) on December 1 will be open to the public and free of charge, thanks to the exclusive sponsorship of Giant Eagle.
