The march toward graduation for the Bexley High School Class of 2018 began with the Senior Recognition Assembly on Monday, May 21. Over 50 senior students were recognized in the Schottenstein Theater in front of their parents and peers for their academic and athletic achievements, as well as service to the community and future service to their country. Over $65,000 in scholarships were awarded.
The Bexley High School Alumni Association (BHSAA) Endowment funded two $1,000 Carlton Smith Memorial Scholarships and the $1,000 William E.L. Young Service Award. The Sandra Montgomery, Class of 55’, Memorial Endowment at the Bexley Education Foundation (BEF) funded a $1,000 scholarship and the Rhodena Masys Memorial Endowment at the BEF funded two $1,500 scholarships. Gifts made to the Lions’ Pride Alumni Fund made possible, for the first time ever, a $250 cash award to accompany each Bexley High School departmental award/cup, a total of 11 awards.
Following the awards assembly, seniors congregated on the high school’s Carlton Smith Field to enjoy the second annual Senior Celebration Day, hosted by Alumni Relations Committee. Though a light drizzle kept students in the gym for a moment, sunlight broke through and members of the Class of 2018 joined the ranks of the Bexley High School alumni family, more than 12,000 strong.
Graduate Maggie Bunker said, “It was a great opportunity to just be with the entirety of our class one last time and to celebrate the end of a chapter.”
Seniors enjoyed a free lunch from two food trucks and Johnson’s Real Ice Cream as a sweet treat. After field day activities, the senior class posed for a photo in their new Bexley Alumni t-shirts. Seniors were also photographed in small group photos wearing shirts representing their college or other post-secondary plans.
“Our newly-minted Bexley High School graduates embody the BEF’s revised mission of investing today in the full potential of tomorrow. We have great pride in them and look forward to all that they will accomplish in the future,” said Pam Glasgow, Executive Director of the Bexley High School Alumni Association and Bexley Education Foundation.Check Out photos from the 2018 Senior Celebration Day
